INTERNATIONAL STUDENT INFORMATION

The Department of Applied Linguistics at Portland State University welcomes International students.  

Currently there are more than twenty-five International students enrolled in PSU's MA-TESOL program.

Information for MA-TESOL applicants:

  1. Graduate applications are only considered for Fall quarter. The deadline for Fall quarter applications is always Feb. 1.
  2. You will have to show proof of an iBT TOEFL score of 100 or above (= P-BT 600+).
  3. English can count to fulfill your 2-year foreign language requirement; you must submit the form: Language Requirement for Foreign Students in the MA TESOL Program.
  4. Fill out and submit a PSU International Graduate Application .
  5. For information about scholarships, please contact International Education Services
  6. If you have completed your bachelor's degree at a U.S. college or university, you are not required to take the TOEFL test.  Before you graduate you will have to submit  the Language Requirement for Foreign Students in the MA TESOL Program

Information for TESL certificate applicants:

  1. Please contact PSU Admissions Office regarding University application deadlines; there are no admissions deadlines for the Dept of Applied Linguistics.
  2. You must submit a TESL certificate packet (see degree page) to get an adviser assigned to you, who will approve your course work.
  3. You will have to show proof of a 79 iBT TOEFL score (550 P-BT) before you receive the actual certificate.

  5. If you have completed your bachelor's degree at a U.S. college or university, you are not required to take the TOEFL test. 

Information for B.A. applicants:

  1. Youmust contact PSU Admissions office regarding University application deadlines; there are no admissions deadlines for the Dept of Applied Linguistics.
  2. You must select your Major (Applied Linguistics) through PSU Admissions office.
  3. You must submit an iBT TOEFL score of 71 or higher (525 P-BT).
